Most books and videos about plants explain what a species is. We thought — why not let the plant speak for itself?
Introducing Eden’s Talking Plant series: short, funny, fact-packed videos where native and drought-tolerant plants narrate their own stories. Even just six months ago this would have been a huge, expensive undertaking — but thanks to new AI video generation tools, it’s now possible to bring dozens of plants to life.
We think this might be the most fun way to learn about plants that’s ever been created.

Why We’re Doing This
We’ve noticed a pattern: people love the look of sidewalk gardens, but they often don’t know what’s growing there — or why it matters.
We wanted to fix that, without making it feel like school. So we turned the plants into the teachers.
With each Talking Plant video, we’re helping people:
- Understand native and climate-resilient species
- Remember what they see on their block
- Learn something real in under 60 seconds
- Smile (or even laugh) while doing it
Whether it’s a glamorous agave giving a dramatic monologue or a self-sufficient poppy explaining why she doesn’t need your irrigation system, these voices help plants feel personal — and unforgettable.
Why It Works
People remember stories more than Latin names.
We designed the series to blend fact with personality. Every script is grounded in what makes that plant unique: its role in the ecosystem, its environmental needs, and its design benefits. But we deliver those facts with humor, character, and just enough sass to make them stick.
In other words: we’re mixing plant ID with pop culture.
Because when a plant makes you laugh and teaches you how to care for it, you’re more likely to notice it next time — and maybe even plant one yourself.
Why It Matters
We believe education should happen on the sidewalk — where the plants are. And in a city like San Francisco, where every curb strip has the potential to become a green space, people should know what they’re looking at.
Talking Plant videos are part of our larger mission to:
- Make native landscaping accessible and fun
- Give people tools to understand and care for public greenery
- Turn sidewalks into living, labeled, lovable gardens
We’re not just planting beauty — we’re planting curiosity.
What’s Next
We’re rolling out dozens of Talking Plant videos throughout the summer. Each one adds to a growing ecosystem of sidewalk education — powered by AI, rooted in real-world ecology.
